Shellac is a brand name for a nail product created by CND. It’s known as a hybrid, as its half polish and half gel. It’s applied like a regular polish to the natural and cured under UV lighting, it’s a 3 step process.
Shellac is a thin, strong product that gives flexibility and durability. It can last up to 14 days on the nails, depending on the nails condition- Some clients can get even longer!
The nail is left looking natural but has that high shine associated with gel nails.
Shellac can’t be used to lengthen or strengthen the nails.
Shellac is removed using acetone wraps, the shellac will just peel off the nails and not leave the nails dry, thin or torn.
If you are looking to lengthen your own nails and want a nail enhancement that is going to be strong, Gels are what you are looking for.
Gels can be applied in 2 ways. Using tips or forms.
A tip-like a false nail- is stuck on to the natural nail and the gel is applied on top, best for short nails. Whereas using forms is when you place a form- an adhesive structure- placed underneath the natural nail to help add length and strength to the natural nail.
A builder gel is added to the nails in 3 steps. Each step is cured under a LED lamp. The nails will be filed and buffed to your desired shape and then your colour/design is the last step.
Gel nails have a high shine, and perfect even shape. Normally they last for about 3 maybe 4 weeks depending on the condition of the natural nail.
Gel nails can cause damage to the natural nail if they are worn for long periods of time or removed incorrectly. Always go to a qualified nail technician for proper removal.
